What exactly is a Patient Advocate? This is your My Nurse First Advocate.

A Patient Advocate acts as a liaison between patient and Healthcare Provider.  They look out for our best interests and outcome when we have a health issue.  A patient who is injured or sick, in need of surgery, or "routine" medical procedure may not be in a position to be active in their own care.  They clearly need to focus all their energy on getting well.

Every My Nurse First Member is assigned a professional Registered Nurse to serve as your healthcare watchdog and ensure you get the care you should. We also appoint business professionals seasoned in the health insurance and financial industries to address your healthcare coverage, billing and accounting problems, COBRA, and any other health related business issue you might have.  (See our [Patient Advocacy: a definition] page for a more comprehensive description of how we ensure your quality of care.) [Return to TOP]

Who needs a patient advocate? You need an Advocate.

With healthcare costs out of control, with the real dangers of common medical mistakes, with a system designed for as many patients can be herded through without much focused personal attention, everyone needs an Advocate. Young or old, healthy or not, take your first step toward peace of mind and personal well-being. [Return to TOP]

How will My Nurse First help me? We organize, inform and empower you.

We assign an experienced Registered Nurse to review your medical information, the treatments you are receiving, the medications you take, and who provides you treatment and care. We consolidate, organize, and give you back a report that you can share with your care providers.  Everyone you rely on to provide you quality healthcare knows what they need to about your other treatments and how to best care for you. Knowledge is everything - we make sure your doctors know more about your health than just their area of treatment. Doctors are illness-focused.  Insurance providers are business-focused.  My Nurse First is wellness-focused.  You are a valued human being, placing your life and well-being in the hands of another.  This is stressful, but we can restore your peace of mind mobilizing powerful resources on your behalf. My Nurse First will act as a conduit between you and your healthcare.  (Read more about the strategies we employ on our [solutions] page) [Return to TOP]

Can My Nurse First save me time and money? Yes, My Nurse First Membership will save you time and money.

Time is our most valuable commodity.  It is finite and non-refundable.

In the course of your intake appointment (about an hour), My Nurse First has the experience and knowledge to compile a vital health profile.  This is information your caregivers need in order to give you proper care.  We do all the "legwork" and follow up with your doctors, surgeons, specialists and therapists.  We save you the time required to actively manage your own good health and help ensure that the time you have been given can be spent doing the things you love.

Having an experienced Advocate has many financial benefits and advantages. Having someone to go to bat for you and deal with doctors, facilities, and insurance providers directly for you is invaluable - we are watching and checking to ensure you receive the attention you should, for the cost you should be paying and that your claims are handled appropriately by your insurance carrier.  [Return to TOP]

How does Membership work? This is how your Membership begins:

Your annual Membership begins when your payment is processed. After scheduling and conducting a phone interview with your assigned Registered Nurse and your release authorization is received, you will be sent your Wellness Report consolidating and organizing your information. a My Nurse First Membership Card to be presented at your physician’s office or hospital, and scheduled regular updates with your Advocate. (See our Membership page for full terms of service and our Solutions page for details on how we can improve your health and healthcare.) [Return to TOP]

Who is eligible? You are eligible.

Membership is available to anyone in the United States, who is of legal age and capacity to enter into a contract. [Return to TOP]

Can I protect my family members with My Nurse First? Every person in your family can benefit from having a complete Health history and profile. There are even discounts for more than one family member.

As your family grows, your health concerns change.  When to ask for antibiotics? Remember the dates of their immunizations? When was his last tetanus shot? We chronicle your history and offer information and advice. Our Registered Nurse Advocates can help you make better decisions to manage the health of your family.
Even the heartiest and healthiest children occasionally visit the Emergency Room. In the event of crisis,
My Nurse First can offer a calm voice, reassurance and which medications your child is allergic to. Every My Nurse First Member is issued a wallet card so we can provide vital health information to your emergency responders and your wishes will be known even when you are unable to express them. Yes - Since everyone in your family should be protected, we want to make our invaluable services available to everyone at the lowest cost. One of our Advocates can explain our discounts for multiple family members. [Return to TOP]

Is My Nurse First affiliated with my insurance company? My Nurse First is not affiliated with any insurance company.

My Nurse First is not affiliated with any insurance carrier or other healthcare system. We are objective.  We only serve your best interests, because we work for you - your care and treatment is our only priority. We do not replace your doctors, but we can help you find the right doctors and the care you need. We do not replace your healthcare coverage, but we can intercede on your behalf for the financial fairness of your healthcare benefits. [Return to TOP]

Will my personal information be kept private? Your information will remain private.

Absolutely - we utilize multiple security protocols and are fully compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Access to information is according to your wishes, restricted in-house to only your Advocate and a backup Advocate - it is no one else's business and that is how we treat it. [Return to TOP]

Can My Nurse First help me find alternatives to drug treatment? My Nurse First will find the right practitioner and treatment for you.

Medicine is a huge field.  Its practice is equal measures of art and science. Invasive procedures or surgery may be "routine" for your practitioners, but you may want a second opinion. Drugs aren't always the best answer either. Sometimes there will be no magic pill to instantly cure you.

Your doctor's best efforts are futile if you aren't willing or able to follow his plan. Let us help you find a strategy for your well-being that you can live with.  You still have options. We can tell you what they are. Your Advocate will explain alternative treatments in your Wellness Report as well as by phone. We are happy to help you make the right choices and find the right care providers - you let us know what you want and we will help you find the best outcome for you. [Return to TOP]

Can My Nurse First help me stay in my home?

One of the greatest advantages of having your own dedicated team of health Advocates is that you can live more independently and safely. We have seen it happen - with a good care plan and Advocates who regularly track your status and can find convenient services available to you in your area as you need them, you can live without the anxiety of feeling solely on your own or struggling to find help. We will help you find home health equipment such as oxygen, bath rails, stair chairs, whatever you need so your home can be made as safe for you as possible. However, if you do decide to move to a retirement village, assisted living facility or other housing arrangement, we will be with you through the transitions of your life and make it easier. That is our promise and our commitment. [Return to TOP]

My insurance denied my claim. Can My Nurse First help me with the bill? Denied insurance claims are standard protocol. My Nurse First will help you get the coverage you are paying for.

We will talk directly to your health insurance carrier to assist in reconciling claims. We will work with you and your carrier to resolve your issue as quickly as possible with as little stress to you - we know the health insurance industry and how to get you the best results. [Return to TOP]

Can My Nurse First help me find the best specialist for my condition? Can you help me secure a referral?
My Nurse First will find the best care providers and help you secure a referral.

We will help you locate qualified specialists in your area and talk directly with your primary physician's office to help obtain a referral and provide assistance with transferring your records to a specialist. Your general practitioner may receive a flat fee for your medical care.  Any extra care takes away from his profit margin.  My Nurse First can intervene for you and ensure you get the care you deserve. [Return to TOP]

Medicare is so confusing! Can My Nurse First help?
My Nurse First
can ease your transition into Medicare.

As your insurance needs change and you transition from private coverage to Medicare, our Advocates can help explain Medicare options. We can help you find supplemental coverage and find a plan that meets your needs. We look forward to helping you. [Return to TOP]

My doctor's explanation was brief and technical. Can you help me make sense of it? We will speak to you plainly.

Many patients and their families, when faced with a sudden or prolonged illness, can be overwhelmed with the information provided. Many times this information relates to life or death decisions that must be made very quickly. Decisions that directly affect the care of a patient or loved one are often based on tests, lab results, prognostic indicators, etc., with brief technical explanations.

Despite the best intentions and good medical care, practitioners may not have the time or the "bedside manner" to speak plainly about a patient's care. Your Advocate can provide details and additional information your physician may have skipped - we are here to answer your questions. Most medical mistakes start when people do not ask the right questions - we make sure you get all the information to make smart healthcare decisions. [Return to TOP]

I'm worried about my parents' medical care. Can My Nurse First find services for them? Adult children often take responsibility for the well-being of their parents. My Nurse First can help you find services for them.

Often as a parent ages it can be difficult to obtain and reconcile medical information, especially if you don't live close to your parent.  We can help compile the information you need to keep your parent safe. Everyone needs an Advocate and we want to provide the protection and benefits having your own Advocate brings. [Return to TOP]

My child is severely disabled and I'm overwhelmed with all the appointments and paperwork. Can My Nurse First help me out? My Nurse First can help you manage these ongoing demands and challenges.

We are your trusted support staff. We will help you organize your information and appointments. My Nurse First will help you deal with complex medical conditions and associated problems. We know too well the stress and pressure a caregiver is under in such circumstances - we also will help you as the caregiver for your child, parent, disabled spouse, or other family member. [Return to TOP]

Can My Nurse First help me decide on the right Health Care plan?
My Nurse First

We know the health insurance industry from the inside. Once you know all your options, we'll help you find the plan that best suits your needs. We want to help you choose a plan that provides the best coverage and value of service for your money. [Return to TOP]
